MVC WOMEN'S WRESTLERS BEGIN 2013 SCHEDULE
Marshall, Mo. (January 5, 2013)- The Missouri Valley Lady Vikings wrestling team went to the Waldorf Open in Forest City, Iowa to begin the 2013 portion of the schedule. The Lady Vikings had seven wrestlers finished with medals including three that finished in second place.
At 101 pounds Freshman Dalina Vuong (Arlington, Texas) lost her first match, but won her first two consolation bracket matches. Vuong lost in the consolation bracket semifinals, but defeated Brianna Rahall of Oklahoma City University by a second period decision to take fifth place.
At the 109 pound weight class Freshman Christina Bautista (Collieville, Texas) won her first round match in a second period decision, but lost in the championship semifinals. Bautista then lost in her first consolation bracket match, and lost in the fifth place match, bringing home sixth place.
At the 130 pound weight class Sophomore Jaccara Winchester (San Leandro, Calif.) advanced to the championship match thanks to two decision victories. In the championship match Winchester was defeated by Tiffany Sluik of Jamestown College by a pin in the first round to take home second place.
At 136 pounds Junior Randi Beltz (Chesterfield, Mo.) advanced to the championship round after three straight victories by pin. In the championship match, Beltz was defeated by Alli Reagan of King College by a 1-0, 5-0 decision. Beltz finished in second place.
At 143 pounds Junior Frances Efiong (Arlington, Texas) advanced to the championship match after two victories by decisions. In the championship match Efiong was defated by Stephanie Geltmacher of Oklahoma City University by a 1-0, 3-0 decision. Efiong finished in second place.
At 170 pounds Junior Brittany Jones (Grapevine, Texas) won her first match, advancing to the championship semifinals where she was defeated. In the consolation bracket, Jones advanced to the third place match but was defeated by pin by Melissa Simmons of Oklahoma City University to finish in fourth place.
At 191 pounds Sophomore Jessica Ulloa (Concord, Calif.) lost in her first round match. In the consolation bracket, Ulloa advanced to the third place match the same person who defeated her in the first round, Sherese Thomas of Oklahoma City University by pin.
The Lady Vikings will next be in action at the NWCA National Duals in Springfield, Ill. Jan. 12-13.
