Dwight Sistrunk Jr., scored 13 points, hitting the game-winning jumper with 2.9 seconds left to give William Jewell College a 68-66 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Saint Joseph's College on Saturday in Liberty, Mo.
The Cardinals (5-5, 1-1), led 29-28 at halftime and the game went back and forth for the first nine minutes of play in the second half. The Pumas then went on an 8-0 run to take a five point lead only to see the Cardinals answer back with a 13-2 run.
The Cardinals appeared to be in control but kept the Pumas in the game by struggling from the free throw line. Jewell shot 15-34 from the line for the game good for only 44.1%.
The Pumas (3-6, 1-1) found themselves down by three with 46 seconds to go before Michael Lipton hit a game tying three point basket with 27 seconds to play.
The Cardinals then drove down and Sistrunk hit a running one hand jumper from ten feet out to give the Cards their game winning 68-66 margin.
John Taylor poured in a double double scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 boards and Dillon Deck scored 17 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.
Dayvon Sloan led Saint Joseph's in scoring with 21including a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.
The Cardinals will travel to Romeoville, Ill., on Thursday to take on Lewis University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
