The William Jewell College Women's Basketball team fell to the No. 7 ranked University of Indianapolis 57-40 on Thursday night in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener in Liberty, Mo.

Jewell got off to a 5-2 start only to see UIndy go on a 23-0 run and the Greyhounds held the Cards without a point until the 4:50 mark of the first half when Katlyn Wood hit one of two from the free throw line.  The Cardinals were unable to score a field goal until Chelsea Meeks hit a three pointer with 45 seconds to play and then Kelsey Nickerson hit another three at the buzzer to cut the lead to 31-15 going into halftime.

The Cards went on a 6-2 run to begin the second half only to see their shooting woes continue and UIndy built a 19 point lead that the Cardinals were only able to dwindle down to 12 midway through the second half.

Jewell (6-3, 0-1) was led by Wood who scored a double double scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 boards.

UIndy (8-1, 1-0) was led by Eliza Wortman and Katy McIntosh who each scored 12.

The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday as they face St. Joseph's College for another GLVC showdown.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
