William Jewell Men's Basketball

The Maryville Saints stormed back in the second half to upend the William Jewell Cardinals 59-54 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest on Thursday evening at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Mo.

The Cardinals (6-7, 2-3 GLVC) started out of the gate on fire knocking down 7 of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals first 9 points were three-pointers and Jewell was able to build a 36-22 at half.

With 17:25 to play the Cardinals built a 41-29 lead but the Cardinals went scoreless for over ten minutes as the Saints went on an 18-0 run to take five point lead. 

Devonte Bell hit two three pointers and the Cards were able to grab a brief 50-49 lead before Asa Toney hit a three for

Maryville to put the saints up 52-50.  Dillon Deck had a chance to bring the Cardinals to within one at the :37 seconds left but missed the free throw and Maryville put the game away from the free throw line. 

Craig Mattson led the Cards with 16 points and John Taylor added 14. 

Toney led all scores with 22 points for Maryville who improved to 14-4 and 4-2 in the GLVC.

The Cardinals will host University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
