William Jewell Men's Basketball

Jewell men's basketball suffered a three overtime defeat at Illinois-Springfield Thursday night, dropping the matchup with the Prairie Stars 87-84.

The Cardinals (8-8, 4-4 in the GLVC) battled back from a 10 point halftime deficit, and a 12 point deficit in the second half, only to see UIS tie the game on a late three-point shot.  In the first overtime, it took a Dillon Deck dunk and a last second stand to send the game to the second overtime tied at 73, and then another last second drive and score by UIS (5-11, 3-5) to send the game to third overtime.

The Cardinals had a six point lead in the second overtime with 90 seconds left before starting point guard Dwight Sistrunk fouled out with 40 seconds remaining.

Jewell was led by Deck and Craig Mattson with 17 points, Devonte Bell with 15 points, and Sistrunk with 13 points.  Deck also added 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Cardinals have an afternoon matchup at Quincy University Saturday starting at 3:15 p.m.
