The William Jewell College women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 69-54 win over University of Illinois-Springfield on Thursday evening in Springfield, Ill.
The Cardinals built a 31-23 lead at the break as Chelsea Meeks and Katlyn Wood each hit for 7 points. Meeks, who scored a season-high 17 points in the victory, connected on 5-of-13 shots from the field and drained 3-of-4 shots from behind the three point line. She also made four of five of her attempts from the free throw line and contributed four steals as well.
Wood finished with 14 points and three rebounds while guard Aerial Smith had 8 points and 6 assists.
The Cardinals, who improved to 10-6 on the season with a 4-4 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), shot 49 percent (25-of-51) from the field and canned 9-of-17 (52.9%) attempts from long range.
UIS, who shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field, were led by Megan Bergeruds' game high 22 points.
The Cardinals will continue their road swing on Saturday, January 26 when they face Quincy University at 1:00 p.m.
