William Jewell Women's Basketball

Chelsea Meeks' follow off her own shot with one second left helped edge the William Jewell Cardinals past the Drury University Panthers 59-57 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest on Thursday evening at the Mabee Center.

The first half saw the Cards continue to struggle from the field as Jewell only shot 29 percent and trailed 30-24 at halftime.

The Cards (12-6, 6-4 GLVC) then found themselves down by as many as eight in the second half before coming back.  With 9:58 to play Drury's Emilie Gray was assessed a technical foul and Chelsea Meeks hit both free throws to give the Cards their first lead since early in the first half.  The score went back and forth for the rest of the half.  With the Cards trailing by two Meeks hit a pair of clutch free throws with a 1:06 to play to tie the game at 55-55.  After a Panther turnover Katlyn Wood's turn around jumper inside the lane gave Jewell a 57-55 lead with 55 seconds to go.

Drury (8-10, 2-8 GLVC) answered as Kalea Parks hit a lay up to tie things up at 57.

Jewell then ran the clock down and Meeks missed a 17 foot shot but was able to follow her miss and found the bottom of the net for the game winning shot with one second left to play.

Meeks led the way with a game high 22 points 8 rebounds and four assists.

Drury was led by Parks, Kylie Williamson and Katie Pritchard who each scored 15 points.

The Cardinals will travel to Rolla, Mo., on Saturday to take on Missouri S&T with the tip-off slated for 3:00 p.m.
