MVC TRACK TEAMS COMPETE AT INDOOR HAAC CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Marshall, Mo. (February 16, 2013) The Missouri Valley College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Championship being held at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa on Feb. 15-16. The Vikings took third place in the conference totally 135 points. The Lady Vikings took sixth overall as a team with 51 points

 

On the men's side Junior Chase Burgess (Lamar, Mo.) took sixth in the 5000 meter run in a time of 16:43.67. In the 3000 meter race walk Freshman Austin Pinkston (Plato, Mo.) took third in a time of 16:50.90 and Sophomore Nick Jenkins (Marshall, Mo.) took fifth in a time of 21:55.08.  The 4x800 meter relay team of Junior Kenneth Kipng'etich (Kenya), Junior Reece Watkins (Camp Verde, Ariz.), Sophomore Xavier Ramon (Arlington, Texas), and Freshman Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain) came in second in a time of 8:14.54. In the heptathlon Senior Jon Leonard (Higginsville, Mo.) took third with 4,279 points and Sophomore Andrew Longboy (Mililani, Hawaii) took fourth with 4,173 points. In the weight throw Junior Jeff Crouch (Sedalia, Mo.) took sixth with a throw of 12.93 meters while Freshman Cory Baker (Strafford, Mo.) came in seventh with a throw of 12.73 meters. In the triple jump Bryon Evans took third with a jump of 14.29 meters, Junior Tyler Davis (St. Louis, Mo) took fourth with a 13.63 meter jump, and Junior Dewayne Williams (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) took sixth with a jump of 13.33 meters. In the 55 meter hurdles Leonard finished second in a time of 7.91 seconds. In the 55 meter dash Williams finished third in a time of 6.60 seconds. In the one mile run Senior Kyland Sims (Lawson, Mo.) finished eighth in a time of 4:46.19. In the 600 yard dash Junior Ben Miller (Bahamas) finished eighth in a time of 1:22.64. The distance medley team of Ramon, Kipng'etich, Franco, and Sims finished second in a time of 10:57.97. In the 800 meter run Franco finished first in a time of 2:00.72 and Ramon finished second in a time of 2:01.44. In the long jump Williams finished seventh with a jump of 6.41 meter and Junior Keith O'Neal (Beaumont, Texas) finished eighth with a jump of 6.36 meters. In the triple jump Evans finished third with a jump of 14.29 meters, Davis finished fourth with a 13.63 meter jump, and Williams finished sixth with a jump of 13.33 meters. In the high jump Davis finished fifth with a jump of 1.90 meters. In the shot put Crouch finished fifth with a throw of 12.96 meters.

 

 

On the women's side Junior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.) took sixth in the 5000 meter run in a time of 19:40.02. In the 3000 meter race walk Sophomore Natalie Cotto-Garcia (Fort Worth, Texas) took fourth in a time of 19:36.02. The 4x800 meter relay team of Sophomore Sarah Neimeir (Germany), Sophomore Tia Rider (Excelsior Springs, Mo.), Sophomore Samantha Gilkey (Lee Summit, Mo.), and Freshman Bailey Grambrell (Colorado Springs, Co.) came in fourth in a time of 10:41.75. In pentathlon Freshman Daneka Brown (St. Louis, Mo.) took fifth totally 1,984 points. In the weight throw Junior Abbey Humphrey (Kansas City, Mo.) took sixth with a throw of 12.13 meters. In the triple jump Sophomore Daniela Torres (Killeen, Texas) took seventh with a jump of 9.81 meters and Freshman Brittney Brisco (San Diego, Calif.) came in eighth with a jump of 9.76 meters. In the 55 meter dash Brisco finished eighth in 7.70 seconds. In the 200 meter dash Brisco finished eighth in a time of 28.74 seconds. The distance medley team of Rider, Gilkey, Grambrell, and Niemeir finished fifth in a time of 14:22.82. Neimeir finished 1st in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:22.06. In the 1000 meter run Grambell finished eighth in 3:45.37. The 4x400 meter relay team of Niemeir, Rider, Senior Sidney Holloway (St. Louis, Mo.), and Gilkey finished fifth in a time of 4:32.75.

 

The NAIA Indoor National Championship will be held Feb 28-Mar.2 in Geneva, Ohio.
