TYLER DAVIS AND JOSH MANU PICK UP HAAC AWARDS
Marshall, Mo. (February 4, 2013)- Two Missouri Valley College Vikings earned Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards in their respective sports Monday. Junior Tyler Davis (St. Louis, Mo.) was named the HAAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, and Junior Josh Manu (North Providence, R.I.) was named the HAAC Wrestler of the Week.
Davis picked up his first weekly conference award of the season, and the second of his indoor track and field career thanks to a record breaking performance Saturday at the Jim Green Invitational at Illinois College. Davis took first place in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.69 meters and was a member of the 4x200 meter relay team that finished second at the event setting a new school record with a time of 1:34.22. Davis previously won the HAAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week in January of 2012.
Manu finished a perfect 5-0 in matches during the week, which included a first place finish in the Missouri Valley College Open. Manu, the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the 197 pound weight class, started the week with a second round pin over Dalton Schutjer of Grand View University in a dual. In the MVC Open, Manu made his way to the championship match at 197 pounds with a first round pin, a victory in the quarterfinals by injury default, then a semifinal win by major decision. In the championship match Manu defeated teammate and No. 10 ranked Junior Carl Lawrence (Sullivan, Mo.) in a 3-2 decision. This is the first weekly conference honor for Manu.
Both Davis and Manu will represent the HAAC in their respective sports as nominees for NAIA Player of the Week awards.
