The Cardinals would strike first off of a field goal and a three-pointer from senior Katlyn Wood and would not look back. The Cardinals would eventually build a 19-2 lead before Rockhurst would close to within 8 midway through the first half. The Cards would go on another run and entered the half leading 46-22. Jewell shot 69.2 percent from the floor in the first half including 7-10 from three-point land.
Rockhurst could only get as close as 17 points as the Cardinals would increase their lead as the half went on. Jewell only shot 44.5 percent in the second half but did drain 6 more three point shots in the second frame.
The Cards would get five players scoring double figures with Wood leading all scorers with 16 points and eight rebounds. Rosa Hof would sink 15 points and Cassy Nicolay added 12. Kelsey Nickerson and Jessie Wheeler would come off the bench to add 12 and 11 points respectively.
Rockhurst would get 15 points Kendall Hart.
The Cardinals improve to 17-9 overall and 10-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, as Rockhurst drops to 7-19 and 4-14. Jewell will now play host to a first round GLVC Tournament contest on Sunday, March 3. Check back to www.jewellcardinals .com for details.
