The William Jewell Cardinals dropped a 68-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference contest to the Quincy University Hawks on Thursday at the Mabee Center in Liberty.
The Cards jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first half before Quincy went on a 12-2 run.
Quincy's Kelly Buresh was key to the Hawks' run and scored 18 of Quincy's first 22 points. The Hawks shot a blistering 64 percent from the field in the first half including 7 for 10 from three point land to take a 38-25 lead at halftime.
The Hawks built an 18 point lead mid-way through the second half before the Cardinals stormed back to make things interesting. Senior Katlyn wood drained a three-pointer with 2:18 to play to cut the Hawks lead to 7 but that was the closest the Cards would get as Quincy closed out the contest.
Chelsea Meeks led three Cardinals in double figures with 19. Cassy Nicolay pitched in 12 and Katlyn Wood had 11 for Jewell.
The Hawks (12-8, 10-2 GLVC) were led by Buresh who scored a game high 28 points including 8-10 from three-point land.
The Cards (12-8, 6-6 GLVC) will play host to Illinois-Springfield on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
