The William Jewell College women's tennis team had little trouble in its spring opener on Friday as they beat Concordia University (Neb.), 9-0.
The Cardinals powered through the Concordia lineup and picked up three wins in doubles play.
Junior Kristen Stivers and sophomore Katy Lehenbauer paired up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and sophomore sisters Loree and Conner Hazelrigg won 8-2 at No. 2. The senior tandem of Hana Lindbloom and Jaimie Baker saw little trouble in their 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Stivers defeated her opponent Katelyn Koll, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Lindbloom followed a strong doubles showing with an equally strong singles contest earning a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Lehenbauer bested Lindsea Vaudt 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and first-year player Savannah Drew upended Grace Hollenbeck 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Loree Hazelrigg defeated Elyse Kohl 6-0, 6-4 and senior Carli Bisesi was dominant in her return from off-season knee surgery 6-0, 6-1 over Liz Kjellsen at No. 6.
The Cards, 1-0 on the spring season will take to the courts again tomorrow taking on Nebraska Wesleyan at 8:30 a.m. at the Knight Fieldhouse on the Nebraska Wesleyan campus in Lincoln, Neb. Jewell will follow that up with a dual against Bethel College at 12:00 p.m. at the Knight Fieldhouse.
