TWO MEN'S WRESTLING STUDENT-ATHLETES RECEIVE NAIA SCHOLAR ATHLETE HONOR
Marshall, Mo. (March 6, 2013)- The NAIA has announced the 2013 Men's Wrestling Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athletes. To be eligible for this honor student-athletes must be nominated by their institution's head coach, must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status in the classroom.
The two Missouri Valley College men's wrestling student-athletes that achieved this honor were Junior Brian Bitney (Puyallup, Wash.) and Senior Gian Traverso (St. Helena, Calif.).
"It is always important to have academic success to go along with success on the mat," says Men's Wrestling Head Coach Mike Machholz. "We strive every year to have members of our team represented on the scholar athlete list, and we realize how much hard work the kids put in to their classroom work to reach this goal."
The men's wrestling team recently wrapped up their 2012-2013 season with an eighth place finish and four individual all-Americans at the NAIA National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa last week.
