Due to inclement weather the William Jewell College baseball team traveled to Lawton, Okla., to host the University of Sioux Falls for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Cards split the double header with the Cougars dropping game one 5-0 but taking the nightcap 6-1. With the split Jewell moves to 2-2 overall on the season.
In the opener the Cards were held at bay by starting pitcher Derek Fischer who threw a complete game four hitter striking out 8.
David Collins (0-2) would take the game one loss pitching 6.2 innings giving up seven hits, four runs and striking out 5.
In the finale, Jewell's bats came to life. Jewell took command with a run in the first, a pair of runs in the third, one in the fifth and another pair of runs in the sixth.
Clarke O'Dowd led the offensive attack going 3-4 with four RBI's and a run scored.
Drew Mitrisin (1-1) pitched a complete game seven hitter giving up one run while striking out 11.
The Cardinals will return to action again tomorrow with another doubleheader against Sioux Falls in Lawton, Okla., starting at 12:00 p.m.
