William Jewell Tennis

The William Jewell College women's tennis team won their fourth straight with a decisive 6-3 win over Kutztown University in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

 

Jewell opened the match by taking four of the six singles matches.  Savannah Drew kept her unbeaten streak alive at No. 3 singles winning 6-1, 6-0.  Drew now stands at a perfect 9-0 on the spring.  Not to be outdone, senior Carli Bisesi is also 9-0 after earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.  Katy Lehenbauer and Loree Hazelrigg earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively.  Junior Kristen Stivers fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and senior Hana Lindbloom dropped a third set thriller falling 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.

 

The Cardinals took two of three doubles matches as Jewell picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.  Loree and

Conner Hazelrigg teamed up for 8-3 win at No. 2 while Lindbloom and Jaimie Baker won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles..

 

Jewell will look for season win number nine as they take on Millersville University on Wednesday in a 6:00 p.m. match.

 

 

The William Jewell College men's tennis team lost a close 5-4 decision to Kutztown University on Tuesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

 

Jewell picked up two doubles victories as senior Bronson Brassel and junior Max Cooper got an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.  The combination of  sophomore Jimmy Hunter and first-year player Michael Rawat earned Jewell's second point with an 8-4 win at No. 3.  Juniors Shane Giannetti and Bryan Thomas dropped an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles.

 

Kutztown then evened the overall match score at two points apiece as Cooper fell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.  The Golden Bears then took a 3-2 match lead as Giannetti dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match at No. 1 singles.  Thomas then won a three set battle at No. 2 6-2, 3-6 and 10-7 to even things up at three.  Rawat found success in his singles match too, winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.  That would be all of Jewell points though, as Kutztown, would earn the match dual with wins over Brassel and Hunter at No. 3 and No. 5 singles respectively.

 

The Cardinals 4-4 overall on the year, will resume its play in Hilton Head on Wednesday, March 11 with a match against Millersville University at 6:00 p.m.
