MVC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL RECOGNIZED BY THE AVCA FOR ACADEMICS

Marshall, Mo. (September 5, 2013)- Missouri Valley College women's volleyball has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) for the team's academic success during the 2012-2013 academic year.

The Viking women's volleyball team received a 2012-2013 AVCA Team Academic Award for having a cumulative GPA of a 3.3 or higher.  The Vikings were one of 45 NAIA women's volleyball programs and three Heart of America Athletic Conference programs to receive this award.

Along with the 2012-2013 AVCA Team Academic Award, the women's volleyball program was also named an NAIA Scholar Team and Senior Courtney Wallace (Springfield, Mo.) earned NAIA Scholar Athlete honors.

"I am extremely proud of the team for earning this recognition from the AVCA," said Head Coach Brett Holt.  "The girls put in a lot of hard work on and off of the court in order to become better students and athletes and I'm happy that their hard work is being recognized and noticed on a National level."

The MVC women's volleyball team sits at 4-0 on the season after sweeping all four matches at the MVC Viking Invitational over Labor Day weekend.  The squad will play four matches at the Avila Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., this Friday and Saturday.
