MVC MEN'S SOCCER MOVES UP POLL, WOMEN'S TEAM RECEIVES VOTES

Marshall, Mo. (October 22, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team continued its climb up the rankings in the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.  The Vikings moved up two spots to the No. 6 ranking, the highest ranking for the team in program history, matching a ranking the program reached at the end of the 2011 regular season.  The Vikings have also been ranked in 38 consecutive polls, which is the fourth longest current streak in NAIA Men's Soccer.

Last week the Vikings defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University at home 1-0.  Oklahoma Wesleyan was ranked No. 4 heading into the match, but fell to No. 8 this week.  Also, the Vikings played MidAmerica Nazarene University to a 3-3 draw at home.  MidAmerica was No. 17 heading into last week's match, but jumped two spots to No. 15 in this week's poll

This week the Vikings wrap up Heart of America Athletic Conference play.  The Vikings host No. 16 Baker University Tuesday at 8:00 pm. at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  Saturday the Vikings travel to Culver-Stockton College for a 3:00 p.m. match.  The Vikings are 11-3-2 on the season and 2-1-2 in conference play.

Other past MVC opponents that are ranked this week include No. 2 Grand View (Iowa) University No. 4 Benedictine College and No. 13 Wayland Baptist (Texas) University.  Columbia College is in the "others receiving votes" category in this week's poll.

The MVC women's soccer team moved back into the "others receiving votes" category in this week's NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll.  The women's team had been sitting just outside the top 25 through the week three poll in late September.  The Vikings are coming off a week where they defeated MidAmerica Nazarene University 1-0 and played Oklahoma Wesleyan to a 1-1 draw.

MVC enters the week with a 10-3-3 overall record and 3-1-1 mark in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, which is good enough for second place in the standings.  This week the Vikings host Baker University Tuesday night and travel to Culver-Stockton College Saturday afternoon.

The Viking men's and women's soccer teams host a doubleheader with Baker University Tuesday evening at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  The women's match starts at 6:00 p.m. and the men's match starts at 8:00 p.m.
