MVC WOMEN'S WRESTLING TAKES PART IN CAN/AM DUALS
Marshall, Mo. (November 2, 2013)- The No. 5 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team took part in the Can/Am Duals in Jamestown, N.D., Friday. The Vikings split their two duals on the day, defeating Lindenwood-Belleville 28-13, but losing to No. 5 University of Jamestown 36-8.
In the opening dual of the event, the Vikings picked up a victory over Lindenwood-Belleville. MVC received individual victories from Sophomore Samantha Higa (Aiea, Hawai'i) in the 123 pound weight class by technical fall. Also, in the 130 pound weight class Freshman Christy Powell (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up a victory by forfeit, as did Freshman Sharice Schnell (Waterloo, Iowa) in the 136 pound weight class. No. 7 Senior Frances Efoing (Arlington, Texas) scored a victory by technical fall in the 143 pound weight class, while Sophomore Jessica Ulloa (Concord, Calif.) picked up a victory by forfeit in the 191 pound weight class to round out the dual 28-13 in favor of MVC.
In the second dual of the day, the Vikings came up short against Jamestown as the only points for MVC came due to forfeits. MVC and Jamestown went into the dual tied for the No. 5 ranking in the Women's College Wrestling Association Top 20 Poll. Both teams left the 109 pound weight class open, and Ulloa picked up another victory by forfeit in the 191 pound weight class.
The 1-1 record in duals Friday moves the team's overall dual record to 4-5 on the season. The Vikings will wrap up action at the Can/Am Duals Saturday.
