MVC TRACK OPENS INDOOR SEASON AND RUNNERS COMPETE IN HALF MARATHON
Marshall, Mo. (December 7, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College indoor track and field team competed in the first event of the 2013-2014 season Saturday at the Bob Timmons Challenge at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. Also, members of the MVC cross country program met NAIA standards in the half-marathon to compete at the National level, at the Fighting Bee Half-Marathon in Davenport, Iowa.
Those competing at the Bob Timmons Challenge include:
Men's
Earl Coats- placed No. 20 in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.42 seconds.
Freshman Zhitavion Shelby (Kyiv, Ukraine)-placed No. 35 in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.46 seconds. Placed No. 11 in the long jump with a distance of 6.22 meters.
Sophomore Brynton Johnston (Bahamas)-placed No. 18 in the 400 meter run in a time of 55.25. Placed No. 17 in the 200 meter dash in a time of 24.29 seconds.
Earl Coats-placed No. 19 in the 400 meter run in a time of 1:06.42.
Senior Jeff Crouch (Sedalia, Mo.)-placed No. 13 in the shot put with a distance of 12.49 meters. Placed No. 11 in the weight throw with a distance of 12.76 meters.
Sophomore Cory Baker (Strafford, Mo.)-placed No. 17 in the shot put with a distance of 11.61 meters. Placed No. 14 in the weight throw with a distance of 12.25 meters
Sophomore Tyrail Gardner (Breckenridge, Mo.)-placed No. 18 in the shot put with a distance of 11.15 meters. Placed No. 17 in the weight throw with a distance of 10.90 meters.
Women's
Sophomore Brittney Brisco (San Diego, Calif.)-placed No. 38 in the women's 60 meter dash in a time of 8.38 seconds. Placed No. 14 in the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.05 seconds. Placed No. 16 in the long jump with a distance of 4.88 meters.
Sophomore Daneka Brown (St. Louis, Mo.)-placed No. 28 in the 200 meter dash in a time of 31.28 seconds. Placed No. 22 in the triple jump with a distance of 9.39 meters. Placed No. 19 in the shot put with a distance of 8.40 meters.
The Vikings had three cross country runners meet NAIA standards Saturday in Davenport, Iowa. Achieving an "A" Standard for the women's team was Junior Sarah Niemeier (Lohne, Germany) who finished 1:28:24. Also finishing with an "A" Standard for the men's team was Freshman Phillip Cheriyout (Nairobi, Kenya) who finished in a time of 1:11:55. Finishing with a "B" Standard for the men's team was Freshman Nate Martin (Jackson, Mo.) who finished in a time of 1:13:48. Temperatures for the half-marathon were between 0-5 degrees.
