MVC MEN'S SOCCER FINISHES SEASON RANKED NO. 16

 

Marshall, Mo. (December 11, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team finishes the 2013 season ranked No. 16 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Postseason Top 25 Poll released Wednesday.  The No. 16 ranking is the highest the program has been ranked in the postseason poll.

 

The Vikings moved up four spots from the final regular season poll released before the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Tournament.  The Vikings finished 1-1 in tournament play, picking up the program's first-ever National tournament victory, defeating No. 17 University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 2-1 in double-overtime on Nov. 23.  In the National tournament second round, the Vikings were defeated by No. 6 Hastings (Neb.) College on a last-second goal, 3-2 on Dec. 3.  The Vikings finished the season with a 13-5-4 record.

 

The Heart of America Athletic Conference finished with four teams ranked in the postseason poll, tied with the Southern States Athletic Conference for the most ranked teams.  Joining the No. 16 Vikings from the HAAC are No. 9 Baker University, No. 12 Benedictine College, and No. 14 Benedictine College.

 

With this week's ranking, the Vikings have now been ranked in 43-straight coaches' polls, which ranks as the fourth longest current streak in NAIA Men's Soccer.
