LADY VIKING SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH BENEDICTINE COLLEGE

Marshall, Mo. (April 6, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College softball team hosted Benedictine College Saturday for the first home conference double header. The Lady Vikings won game one 4-3, but lost game two 2-0.

In game one the Lady Vikings found themselves down 1-0 early in the first inning, but responded with three runs of their own to take a 3-1 lead. MVC held the lead until the seventh inning when the Lady Ravens had a rally of their to tie the game 3-3 forcing extra innings after MVC failed to score.  Benedictine was held scoreless in the top of the 8th inning, which allowed the Lady Vikings Sophomore Lisa Luna (Anaheim, Calif.) to drive in Freshman Shelby Schmitz for the win

In game two the two teams again found themselves in extra innings. The game was scoreless for seven innings, until Benedictine drove in two runs in the top of the eighth. The Lady Vikings were not able to capitalize and fell 2-0.

The Lady Vikings move to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the HAAC, while Benedictine moves to 15-11 overall and 2-2 in conference. The Lady Vikings host William Woods University tomorrow at 2pm and 4pm.
