MVC BASEBALL TAKES ON WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY
Marshall, Mo. (April 24, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College baseball traveled to Fulton, Mo. tonight to take on William Woods University in a one-game, nine inning non-conference game. The Vikings came back from a deficit to tie the game mid-way through the game, but fell 9-7.
The Vikings found themselves in an early 6-0 deficit after just three innings of play. In the fourth inning MVC had large production from the plate scoring six runs to tie the game. The Vikings batted through the line-up starting off with Sophomore Catcher Anthony Corona (Lees Summit, Mo.) who singled to left to start the cycle off. Freshman Cole Teaford (Willard, Mo.) came in to pinch run for Corona. Junior First Baseman Josh Hartin (Washburn, Mo.) reached base on a misplayed pop fly by William Woods to give the Vikings two base runners. Senior Short Stop Troy Langan (Elk Grove, Calif.) singled to right field advancing Teaford to third and Hartin to second. Teaford advanced home on a balk by William Woods pitcher advancing Hartin to third and Langan to second. Sophomore Dominique Smith (Sedalia, Mo.) singled to score Hartin and move Langan to third. Smith advanced to second. Junior Left Fielder Tyler Siem (Augusta, Mo.) reached on a walk to load the bases. Freshman Jacob Stafford (Richmond, Mo.) singled to score Langan and Smith, and sending Siem to third. Junior Tim Roddy (Yakima, Wash.) hit a hard ground ball to score Siem and advance Stafford to third. Freshman Devin Burnworth (Kansas City, Mo.) singled to left to score Stafford for the sixth run of the inning. The Vikings scored again in the sixth inning Stafford scored the run after he hit a single and advanced home on errors. William Woods scored two run in the bottom of the sixth and another in the seventh. Neither team scored in the remaining two innings, giving Williams Woods the 9-7 victory.
The sits at MVC 3-33 overall and 2-22 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. Williams Woods improves to 27-14 overall. The Vikings will be in action again Saturday when they travel to Peru, Neb. to take on Peru State in a conference double-header. Game time is set for 1pm.
