MVC MEN'S RODEO TAKES FIRST, WOMEN SECOND AT WEEKEND RODEO

 

Marshall, Mo. (April 15, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College rodeo teams wrapped up their 2012-2013 regular season at the University of Tennessee-Martin rodeo over the weekend.  The men's team captured first place at the event, while the Lady Vikings finished in second place.

 

Individually for the men's team two Vikings took first in their competitions.  Sophomore Tim O'Connell (Zwingle, Iowa) finished first in the bareback riding competition and Sophomore Travis Smith (West Plains, Mo.) took first place in bull riding.  O'Connell also took third place in the saddle bronc riding competition.

 

On the women's side Freshman Cassie Harper (Sparks, Ga.) placed second and Sophomore Hilton Peeples (Milton, Ga.) took fourth in the breakaway roping competition.  Sophomore Kasey Stuxness (Appleton, Minn.) placed second in the goat tying competition.

 

The first place finish solidified the Vikings second place standing in the Ozark Region, while the Lady Vikings finish the regular season as the third place team in the region.

 

The MVC rodeo team will next compete at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. June 9-15.
