MVC CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT COWBOY JAMBOREE
Marshall, Mo. (September 28, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College cross country traveled to the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday. The Viking men's team had one top 25 finisher and placed eighth as a team.
The top individual finisher for the Vikings was Freshman Phillip Cheriyout (Nairobi, Kenya) who finished No. 23 in a time of 27:38 in the 8k race. Senior Ignacio Franco (Hoesca, Spain) finished No. 44 in a time of 28:06 with Junior Kenneth Kipng'etech (Nairobi, Kenya) placing No. 50 in a time of 28:12. The final two point scorers for MVC was Freshman Nolan Ryan (St. Peters, Mo.) who finished No. 58 in a time of 28:18 and Junior Will Lee (Strafford, Mo.) who placed 63 in a time of 28:24.
The Vikings as a team finished in eighth place with a total score of 215. The team champion was Oklahoma Baptist University with 60 points.
On the women's side just two Vikings took part as Senior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished No. 28 in a tie of 20:51 in the 5k race. Also Freshman Olivia Bird (Tulsa, Okla.) took No. 130 with a time of 23:34.
The MVC cross country teams will be in action at the Pre-Nationals meet in Lawrence, Kan. Saturday Oct. 12.
