MVC WOMEN'S SOCCER KNOCKS OFF WILLIAM WOODS SATURDAY

MVC WOMEN'S SOCCER KNOCKS OFF WILLIAM WOODS SATURDAY

Marshall, Mo. (September 21, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's soccer team went on the road Saturday afternoon to Fulton, Mo. for a non-conference match with William Woods University.  The Vikings scored a second half goal that was the difference in a 1-0 victory, the sixth in a row for MVC.

The Vikings entered the game in the "others receiving votes" category in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll released earlier this week.  The first half saw plenty of opportunities for MVC as they got off 14 shots, six of which were on goal.  Shots by Freshman Midfielder Lais Pazzini (Canoas, Brazil) and Freshman Midfielder Riley Kerr (St. Peters, Mo.) went off the goal frame early in the half, but the game went into halftime at 0-0.

The Vikings again put the pressure on William Woods getting off six shots until one finally broke through late in the match.  With just under eight minutes to play in regulation Junior Forward Kendra Clamors (St. Peters, Mo.) scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Sophomore Forward Haley Ennis (St. Charles, Mo.), giving MVC the 1-0 victory.  The goal for Clamors was her second of the season while Ennis picked up her second assist of the year, and tenth point of the season.

As a team the Vikings outshot William Woods by a 22-9 margin.  Sophomore Keeper Irene Sanchez (Barcelona, Spain) earned her third shutout of the season making three saves.

The win improves MVC to 6-1-1 on the season while William Woods falls to 3-4.

Up next for the women's soccer team is another road match at William Penn University Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
