MVC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PICK UP TWO MORE WINS FRIDAY
Marshall, Mo. (September 6, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball team began play at the Avila Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. Friday. In match one of the tournament, MVC downed the University of Saint Mary 25-19, 25-10, 25-15. In the second match against Benedictine-Springfield University the Vikings cruised again to a 25-13, 25-9, 25-18 victory.
MVC dominated much of its match with Saint Mary winning 3-0. It was the fifth straight match in which the Vikings failed to drop a game to their opponent. Leading the way for MVC were Freshman Outside Hitter Lauren Eldridge (Kansas City, Mo.), Senior Outside Hitter Ana Calito (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) and Junior Middle Blocker Taylor Trotter (Bartonsville, Ill.) who all combined for 20 kills. Also Senior Libero Diane Dellasalla (Houston, Texas) added 15 digs and Senior Setter Tarrah Sweet (Roswell, N.M.) finished with 33 assists.
Much like their first match of the Avila Tournament, the Vikings dominated play against Benedictine-Springfield in the second match, winning 3-0. Trotter and Senior Middle Blocker Jada Hollinshead (Tunnel Hill, Ill.) combined for 14 hills, while Senior Opposite Courtney Wallace (Springfield, Mo.) finished with five kills and a hitting percentage of 46-percent. Sweet added 15 assists and seven digs while Freshman Setter Haley Harrill (Council Bluffs, Iowa) added 12 assists. Dellasala finished with nine digs and Senior Defensive Specialist Claire Lorenez (Crestwood, Mo.) added six assists. The Vikings also finished the match with nine service aces.
The two wins improve MVC's record to 6-0 on the season. The Vikings have yet to drop a game so far this season.
The Vikings have two more matches remaining at the Avila Tournament Saturday. MVC will play Stephens College at 9:00 a.m. and Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 3:00 p.m.
