MVC MEN'S WRESTLING STAYS RANKED NO. 10 IN COACHES' POLL
Marshall, Mo. (January 23, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team remains ranked No. 10 in the latest NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll. The Vikings remained in the spot despite an eighth place finish at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Tournament and a fifth place finish at their own MVC Invitational since the last poll was released.
Other notable teams ranked in this week's poll include Grand View (Iowa) at No. 1. The Vikings host Grand View in a dual Jan. 30. Baker University comes in at a tie for No. 11. Also Benedictine College, a team the Vikings have a dual with Wednesday night, are in the "others receiving votes" category.
Also released were the individual rankings in each weight class, and the Vikings have nine members of their team ranked. Freshman Ryan Sterns (Williston, Vt.) stays at No. 14 at 125 pounds, Sophomore Logan Welch (Lexington, Mo.) remains ranked at No. 10 at 133 pounds, Freshman Jake Ekster (Houston, Texas) moves down one spot to No. 7 at 149 pounds, Freshman Dylan King (Hamilton, Mo.) enters the individual rankings at No. 11 at 157 pounds, Senior Gian Traverso (St. Helena, Calif.) moves up five spots to No. 7 at 165 pounds, Freshman Brett Bader (Farmington, Mo.) enters the rankings at No. 13. Junior Josh Manu (North Providence, R.I.) stays ranked at No. 5 at 197 pounds, Junior Carl Lawrence (Sullivan, Mo.) enters the poll at No. 10 in the 197 pound weight class, and Junior Daniel Mueller (Collinsville, Ill.) remains ranked No. 6 at 285 pounds.
The Vikings have two duals upcoming, Wednesday night at Benedictine College and Friday night at home against NCAA Division II foe Maryville University.
The Friday night dual is at 7 p.m. at the Burns Athletic Complex. Maryville University recently won the team championship at the MVC Invitational.
