William Jewell Women's Basketball 1/21/13

The William Jewell Cardinals lost 67-46 to the Rockhurst University Hawks in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Monday afternoon in Liberty, Mo.

The Hawks jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and was able to increase it to 25-7 advantage and the Cardinals recent shooting woes were evident again as the Cardinals went nearly five minutes without a score.  Jewell then went on a 7-0 run to close the gap to 27-16 before Rockhursts' Kendall Hart drained a three-point basket to give the Hawks a 30-16 lead and went into the break with a 35-18 advantage.  Jewell was only able to connect on 30 percent of their shots in the first half.

The Hawks rolled out to 7-0 run in the second half and never looked back.  Rockhurst built a 30 point lead with 10 minutes to play and proved too much for the Cardinals to overcome.

Kelsey Nickerson came off the bench to lead the Cardinals with 12 points including four of six from three-point land.

Rockhurst was led Taylor Skala who scored 12 points and Kara McFarland who scored 11.

The Cardinals will travel to Springfield, Ill., on Thursday to take on University of Illinois-Springfield.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
