The William Jewell Cardinals rolled by Rockhurst University 70-54 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Monday afternoon in Liberty, Mo. The Cardinals have won two straight and improve to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in GLVC play.
The Cards shot out to a 10-2 lead to start the game before seeing Rockhurst cut the lead to four as Jewell led 16-12. That proved to be the closest the Hawks would get as Jewell shot 6 of 11 from three point land in the half and Devonte Bell hit a couple of key three's to help the Cardinals build a 35-19 halftime lead.
The Cardinals kept the pressure on in the second half and were never threatened. Jewell was able to build their biggest lead of the game 66-45 with 3:06 to play. The Cardinal bench came through today outscoring Rockhursts' bench 30-14.
John Taylor led four Cardinals scoring in double figures with 17. Dillon Deck, Dwight Sistrunk, Jr., and Cryil Bilong scored 12, 10 and 10 respectively.
Rockhurst (1-13, 0-7 GLVC) was led by James Robinson and Liam Duffy who each scored nine points.
The Cardinals will travel to Springfield, Ill., on Thursday to take on University of Illinois-Springfield. Tip-off is slated for 7:45 p.m.
