The Cardinals (12-13, 8-9 GLVC) and the Miners (6-17, 2-14 GLVC) struggled from the field in the first half as Jewell shot 36 percent and S&T shooting only 33.7 percent. The Cardinals were able to go into the locker room at halftime with a 30-26 lead.
In the second half, the Cardinals used the free-throw line to their advantage as the Miners picked up their tenth team foul with 14:46 to play in the game. Jewell shot 19-26 from the free-throw line in the second half which helped the Cardinals maintain their lead they built at halftime.
Four Cardinals scored in double figures with Devonte Bell leading the way with 21 points. Dillon Deck scored 18, Ricky Tisdale poured in 15 and senior
Craig Mattson closed out his Mabee Center career with 11 points.
The Miners were led Mudi Eruteya who scored 16.
Jewell will travel to Rockhurst to take on the Hawks Thursday, February 28 with tip-off scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
