MVC MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATES HASKELL INDIAN NATIONS
Marshall, Mo. (November 19, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College men's basketball team got back on the winning track Tuesday night with an 86-63 road non-conference victory over Haskell Indian Nations University.
The Vikings came out strong against Haskell, and lead through much of the first half. The Vikings also took good care of the basketball, committing just one turnover in the first half, before eventually leading at the halftime break, 49-28. The second half was much the same for the Vikings, as they limited Haskell to just 33-percent shooting in the entire game. The Vikings defense also created a number of quick possessions, as Haskell turned the ball over 23 times in the game. The Vikings led by double-digits through the entire second half, and pulled away for an 86-63 victory.
The Vikings finished with five players in double-figures, led by Junior Andre Scott (San Antonio, Texas) who finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Junior Brad Thomas (Pittsfield, Ill.) finished with 12 points, while Sophomore Jacob Powell (Marshfield, Mo.) finished with 12 points. Also, Senior Jim Thomas (St. Louis, Mo.) had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Sophomore Raviel Burton (St. Johns, Antigua) had 12 points, six rebounds, and four blocks.
The win puts the Vikings at 5-2 on the season, while Haskell falls to 1-5.
The Vikings had a quick turnaround, as they play at Hannibal-LaGrange University Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Earlier this month, the Vikings defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 80-63 to open the 2013-2014 season.
