VIKING FOOTBALL JUMPS TO NO. 7, RANKED IN 100TH STRAIGHT POLL
Marshall, Mo. (November 11, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College football team jumped three spots in the latest NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Monday. The Vikings moved to the No. 7 spot in the latest poll, following a 42-14 victory over previously undefeated Benedictine College Saturday.
The win over Benedictine moved MVC to 7-2 overall and 7-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The win also moved the Vikings into a tie atop the HAAC standings with Benedictine and Baker University.
Also, the Missouri Valley football team has now been ranked in 100 straight polls. The last NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll that did not feature the Vikings was the 2006 Preseason Poll. The Vikings have the second longest active streak, behind only Carroll (Mont.) College which has been ranked in 165 consecutive polls.
Other HAAC schools ranked include Baker at No. 4, Benedictine at No. 9 and Peru State College drops to No. 19. Non-conference opponent Ottawa University moved up to No. 8.
The Vikings will play at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo. Saturday at 1pm. A win would give Missouri Valley a third-straight HAAC regular season championship.
