MVC WOMEN'S WRESTLING CONTINUES ACTION AT THE NWCA NATIONAL DUALS
Marshall, Mo. (January 12, 2014)- The No. 9 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team continued action in the National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa Sunday. In the opening round the Vikings were defeated by No. 7 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 31-15. Sunday in the consolation bracket the Vikings were defeated by a 27-20 loss to No. 13 McKendree University. The Vikings also defeated No. 12 Waldorf College 30-13. MVC finished the event with a 1-2 dual record.
Against McKendree University MVC lost by a 27-20 team score.
101 pounds- Tayler Resuriz won by forfeit as MVC left the weight class open.
109 pounds- Sophomore Samantha Higa (Aiea, Hawai'i) won by forfeit as McKendree left the weight class open.
116 pounds- Senior Samantha Lovelace (South Prairie, Wash.) lost to Anna Divins in a first period pin.
123 pounds- Freshman Christy Powell (Atlanta, Ga.) lost to Lindsey Spjut in a first period pin.
130 pounds- Senior Mayleen Soto (Azusa, Calif.) lost to No. 9 Gabirelle Wehyrich in a 10-0 technical fall.
136 pounds- Diana Neverezwon by forfeit as MVC left the weight class open.
143 pounds- No. 6 Senior Frances Efiong (Arlington, Texas) defeated Sonia Beri in a 6-1 decision.
155 pounds- Freshman Ku'uleilani Lankford (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) defeated Andrea Ruiz in a 6-2 decision.
170 pounds- No. 9 Senior Brittany Jones (Grapevine, Texas) defeated Robin Torres in a 15-4 technical fall.
191 pounds- No. 10 Sophomore Jessica Ulloa (Concord, Calif.) won by forfeit as McKendree left the weight class open.
Against Waldorf College MVC won by a 30-13 team score.
101 pounds- Left open by both MVC and Waldorf.
109 pounds- Sophomore Samantha Higa (Aiea, Hawai'i) won by forfeit as Waldorf left the weight class open.
116 pounds- Senior Samantha Lovelace (South Prairie, Wash.) lost to Jessica Fresh in a first period pin.
123 pounds- Freshman Christy Powell (Atlanta, Ga.) defeated Dana Karkar in a 4-1 decision.
130 pounds- Senior Mayleen Soto (Azusa, Calif.) defeated Justice Losee by a 12-2 technical fall.
136 pounds- Gabby Klein won by forfeit as MVC left the weight class open.
143 pounds- No. 6 Senior Frances Efiong (Arlington, Texas) defeated Julie Johnson with a first period pin.
155 pounds- Freshman Ku'uleilani Lankford (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) won over Ashlee Lentz by a 7-4 decision.
170 pounds- No. 9 Senior Brittany Jones (Grapevine, Texas) won by forfeit as Waldorf left the weight class open.
191 pounds- No. 10 Sophomore Jessica Ulloa (Concord, Calif.) defeated Sonya L3gate in a third period pin.
The Vikings will next be in action Thursday for Senior Night as they host McKendree University in a dual at the Burns Athletic Complex. Dual starts at 6:00 p.m.
