LADY VIKING SOFTBALL ENDS SEASON IN THE HAAC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Marshall, Mo. (May 5, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College softball team ended their season Sunday at the HAAC Conference Tournament. The Lady Vikings faced Mid-America Nazarene in the first round of games. MVC was defeated 8-0 in five innings.  This year's softball tournament has been expanded to include eight teams due to the many weather postponements and cancellations during the regular season. The two teams were due to play Saturday, but poor field condition from weather forced a change in tournament format. The original double-elimination tournament was changed to single that started Sunday.

The Lady Vikings produced hits early in the first inning when Sophomore Center Fielder Lisa Luna (Anaheim, Calif.) doubled to left center, while Junior Short Stop Priscilla Garcia (Oxnard, Calif.) followed with a single, but both were stranded. Luna and Garcia each singled in the fourth inning, but could not score. The pair provided MVC with their only four hits of the game. Senior Kim Lopez (La Mirada, Calif.) pitched her final game for MVC striking out two and not allowing any walks.

The Lady Vikings end the season as the conference seventh seed with a record of 6-12 in the HAAC and 12-19 overall. Mid-America advances and improves to 28-12 overall and finished second in the conference with a record of 14-4. MVC's Mallory White (Marceline, Mo.), Mel McClain (Chino, Calif.), and Kim Lopez finish their final season for the Lady Vikings. Lopez was also selected as all-conference honorable mention during the 2013 season.
