MVC TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS COMPETE AT HAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Marshall, Mo. (May 5, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College track and field teams took part in the two-day Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.  The Viking men's track and field team finished the competition in fourth place, while the Lady Vikings took sixth.  Two Vikings were individual conference champions.

Top finishers on the men's team:
Junior Chase Burgess (Lamar, Mo.)-sixth in the 10000 meter run with a time of 34:15.32
Freshman Hugh Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica)-sixth in the pole vault with a height of 3.60 meters
Junior Dwayne Williams (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.)-fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.88 meters, second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.92, fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.81, fifth in the long jump with a distance of 13.28 meters
Sophomore Tyler Davis (St. Louis, Mo.)-sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.65 meters, sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.24, eighth in the long jump with a distance of 12.96 meters, fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters
Freshman Cory Baker (Strafford, Mo.)-eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.44 meters
Senior Jon Leonard (Higginsville, Mo.)-conference champion on the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.07, third in the men's decathlon, eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.78 meters
Freshman Austin Pinkston (Plato, Mo.)-third in the race walk in a time of 25:58.08
Sophomore Will Lee )Strafford, Mo.)-second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:28.99
Senior Kyland Sims (Lawson, Mo.)-third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:44.43
Sophomore Nick Jenkins (Marshall, Mo.)-eighth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:20.29
Junior Kenneth Kipng'etich (Kenya)-third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.44
Freshman Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain)-second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.80
Sophomore Xavier Ramon (Arlington, Texas)-eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.67
Junior Byron Evans (Chicago, Ill.)-third in the long jump with a distance of 14.30 meters
Junior Jeff Crouch (Sedalia, Mo.)-fifth in the shot put with a distance of 13.17 meters
4X800 relay team of Kyland Sims, Kenneth Kipng'etich, Sophomore Xavier Ramon (Arlington, Texas), Ignacio Franco-third in a time of 8:06.17
4X100 meter relay team of Hugh Lewis, Tyler Davis, Dwayne Williams, Aursland Seymour-fourth with a time of 43.38
4X400 relay team of Kenneth Kipng'etich, Tyler Davis, Ignacio Franco, Xavier Ramon-second with a time of 3:26.55

Top finishers on the women's side:
Junior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.)-fourth in the 10000 meter run with a time of 41:38.32
Freshman Daneka Brown (St. Louis, Mo.)-seventh in the Heptathlon, sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.81 meters
Sophomore Sarah Neimeier (Lohne, Germany)-conference champion in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:55.42, conference champion in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.85, fifth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:51.74
4X800 relay team of Sophomore Fanny Bertalan (Lyon, France), Freshman Bailey Gambrel (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Sarah Neimeier, Amanda Buhr-fourth in a time of 11:09.53
4X400 relay team of Fanny Bertalan, Sarah Neimeier, Bailey Gambrel, Freshman Brittany Brisco (San Diego, Calif.)-fifth with a time of 4:45.88

Taking the team championship on the men's side was Baker University with 300 points, while the Vikings finished fourth with 121.6 points.  Baker also won the women's side with 397 points while the Lady Vikings finished sxith with 43 points.

The Vikings will next compete at the Sam Williams Qualifying Meet at Emporia State University in Kansas May 11.
