LADY VIKINGS OPEN SEASON PLAYING BELLEVUE TO A DRAW
Marshall, Mo. (August 24, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's soccer team opened its 2013 regular season playing Bellevue (Neb.) University to a 2-2 draw at the Grand View Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa Saturday afternoon. Bellevue is currently in the "others receiving votes" category in the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll.
The Lady Vikings jumped out early against Bellevue taking a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the match thanks to a goal by Sophomore Forward Haley Ennis (St. Charles, Mo.). The lead was extended for 2-0 just 10 minutes later when Ennis found the back of the net again.
Bellevue responded quickly and scored their first goal halfway through the first half, and were able to convert a penalty kick at the 31-minute mark to tie the match at 2-2.
Sophomore Irene Sanchez (Barcelona, Spain) came in as keeper in the second half and overtime periods to block six shots and keep Bellevue off the board, but the Lady Vikings were unable to find a game-winning goal as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Lady Vikings outshot Bellevue 17 to 11, but Bellevue was able to block 15 of those shots.
The draw moves the Lady Vikings to 0-0-1 on the season, while Bellevue also sits at 0-0-1.
