BOTH MVC SOCCER PROGRAMS INCHING UP LATEST RANKINGS

 

Marshall, Mo. (September 17, 2013)- Both Missouri Valley College soccer programs are again recognized this week in the latest NAIA soccer rankings released Tuesday.  The Viking men's soccer team rose six spots and is ranked No. 11 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll.  Also, the women's soccer team remains in the "others receiving votes" category in this week's NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

 

The No. 11 men's team sits at 4-1 on the season, winning two games last week.  The Vikings defeated then No. 15 Columbia College 1-0 and defeated the University of Jamestown 3-1.  For his efforts in the two matches Senior Keeper Josh Wells (Kent, England) was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Defender of the Week, earning his second shutout of the season against Columbia.  Upcoming opponents that are ranked in this week's poll include No. 3 Benedictine College, No. 8 Ashford University, No. 9 Oklahoma Wesleyan, and No. 16 MidAmerica Nazarene University.  Baker is in the "others receiving votes" category.

 

The men's team hosts William Woods University Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Dakota Wesleyan University Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  William Woods enters the week with a 3-2 record while Dakota Wesleyan sits at 3-1-1 on the season.  Upcoming MVC opponents ranked this week include

 

The women's soccer team is recognized in the poll for the second-straight week in the "others receiving votes" category.  The Vikings are 5-1-1 on the season and have won five straight games.  Last week MVC defeated Columbia College 3-2 in double-overtime at home and defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University on the road 2-1.  Upcoming MVC opponents ranked this week include Graceland University at No. 11 and Benedictine College at No. 22.  Avila is also in the "others receiving votes" category this week.

 

The women's team will next play on the road at 2-3 William Woods University in Fulton, Mo Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
