MVC CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TRAVEL TO ILLINOIS FRIDAY
Marshall, Mo. (September 13, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College cross country teams hit the road Friday to take part in the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cross Country Challenge. The No. 24 men's team finished No. 5 against NCAA and NAIA programs, and had one runner finish in the top 10.
Top finisher on the men's side was Freshman Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) who took sixth overall with a time of 26:07.4 in the 8k race. Freshman Shane Murphy (Seneca, Mo.) placed No. 31 with a time of 28:19.6. Freshman Nate Martin (Jackson, Mo.) placed No.34 with a time of 28:37.5. Senior Chase Burgess (Lamar, Mo.) came in No. 36 at 28:46.5. Rounding out the point scorers for MVC was Junior Will Lee (Strafford, Mo.) placing No. 37 in a time of 28:47.9.
The Vikings finished with a team score of 100 points. The top team was Southeast Missouri State University who scored 36 team points.
On the women's side, the Lady Vikings did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score, but top finisher on the team was Senior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.) who placed No. 15 in a time of 20:01.1 in the 5k race. Also, Freshman Olivia Bird (Tulsa, Okla.) finished No. 39 in a time of 23:14.9.
The MVC cross country teams will wait two weeks until their next meet when they take part in the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. Saturday Sept. 28.
