MVC WOMEN'S SOCCER GETS ROAD WIN AGAINST HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE

MVC WOMEN'S SOCCER GETS ROAD WIN AGAINST HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE

Marshall, Mo. (September 14, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's soccer team went on the road Saturday afternoon to play at Hannibal-LaGrange University.  The Vikings scored once in each half, and held off Hannibal-LaGrange in the final minutes of the match to win 2-1.

The Vikings, which are receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, got on the board early in the game when Freshman Midfielder Andrea Garcia (Toledo, Spain) scored at the 11-minute mark.  That's how things would go into the halftime break, but MVC was able to add to their lead midway through the second half.  Just shy of the 60-minute mark Junior Forward Kendra Clamors (St. Peters, Mo.) found the back of the net to extend the MVC lead to 2-0.  Hannibal-LaGrange tried to make a comeback late when they scored on Sophomore Keeper Irene Sanchez (Barcelona, Spain) with less than 15 minutes remaining in the match, but it wasn't enough.  Sanchez was able to make four saves in the game, and help preserve a 2-1 MVC victory.

Garcia picked up her third goal of the season while Clamors scored her first this year.  The Vikings outshot Hannibal-LaGrange 16-9 in the match, and got off 12 shots in the second half.

The win improves MVC to 5-1-1 on the season and they have now won five straight matches.  With the loss, Hannibal-LaGrange drops to 0-5 this year.

Up next for the women's soccer team is another road match at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. Saturday Sept. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
