VIKING FOOTBALL TEAM RANKED NO. 11 IN LATEST COACHES' POLL

 

Marshall, Mo. (September 16, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College football team fell nine spots to No. 11 in this week's NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Monday.  The Vikings opened the season Saturday losing to Ottawa University 20-6 on the road.  The Vikings had been ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll, while the win helped propel Ottawa to the No. 13 ranking.

 

The Vikings have now appeared in the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll for 92 consecutive weeks.  The last poll the Vikings were left out of the top 25 was the 2006 preseason poll.  The Vikings have the second longest active streak in the NAIA, trailing only Carroll (Mont.) College which has been ranked in 157 straight polls.

 

The No. 11 Vikings will enter Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday hosting No. 15 MidAmerica Nazarene University at Gregg-Mitchell Field for ValleyPalooza: Family Weekend 2013.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.  Both the Vikings and Pioneers enter the game at 0-1.

 

Other teams in the HAAC ranked in this week's poll include Baker University at No. 8 and Benedictine College at No. 14.  Peru State College is in the "others receiving votes" category.
