MVC MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAMS RECOGNIZED IN LATEST POLLS
Marshall, Mo. (September 10, 2013)- Both Missouri Valley College soccer programs are recognized this week in the last NAIA soccer rankings released Tuesday. The Viking men's soccer team moved up one spot from the preseason poll and is ranked No. 17 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Also, the women's soccer team is in the "others receiving votes" category in this week's NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
The men's team sits at 2-1 on the season, beating both Wayland Baptist University and Oklahoma Baptist University. The lone loss for the Vikings came Saturday on the road at No. 13 Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. Despite the loss over the weekend the Vikings moved up from No. 18 to No. 17 in this week's rankings.
The men's team hosts No. 15 Columbia College Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. at Gregg-Mitchell Field. Columbia sits at 2-1-1 on the season. Other ranked teams on MVC's schedule include No. 5 Benedictine College, No. 7 Ashford University, No. 9 MidAmerica Nazarene University and No. 14 Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Also, Baker University is in the "others receiving votes" category.
The women's soccer team is recognized in the poll for the first time after starting the season 3-1-1. The Vikings played Bellevue University to a draw to open the season, before losing to Grand View University. Since then, MVC has won three-straight games over Bethel University, NCAA Division II McKendree University, and Park University. The Vikings were recognized in the "others receiving votes" category throughout parts of the 2012 season, but never entered the Top 25.
Tuesday night the Vikings host Columbia College in a match at 6:00 p.m. at Gregg-Mitchell Field. Columbia is also in the "others receiving votes" category. Other ranked teams upcoming on MVC's schedule include No. 13 Graceland University and No. 19 Benedictine College. Future opponent Avila is in the "others receiving votes" category.
