MVC MEN'S SOCCER DROPS ROAD MATCHUP SATURDAY NIGHT
Marshall, Mo. (September 8, 2013)- The No. 18 Missouri Valley College men's soccer team went on the road Saturday to play Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. Despite scoring the game's first goal, the Vikings lost to Grand View 2-1. Grand View is currently in the "others receiving votes" category in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll.
The Vikings got on the board first at the 22-minute mark when Junior Forward Tiago Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) found the back of the net off an assist from Sophomore Midfielder Raul Beneit (Cadiz, Spain). Grand View tied the game up at 1-1 15 minutes later, and that's how the game went into halftime. Both teams had their chances in the second half, but with just under six minutes left in regulation, Grand View scored the game winning goal, and held off the Vikings late in the match to pull off the 2-1 upset.
The Vikings were outshot in the game 11-4, and Grand View finished with nine corner kicks, compared to MVC's three.
The loss drops the Vikings to 2-1 on the season while Grand View improves to 4-0..
Up next for MVC is a matchup with No. 12 Columbia College at home Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.
