MVC WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS THIRD STRAIGHT MATCH SATURDAY
Marshall, Mo. (September 7, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's soccer team won its third straight match thanks to a 6-2 win over Park University in Parkville, Mo. Saturday afternoon. The six goals are the most scored for the women's soccer team since a win over Hannibal-LaGrange University on Oct. 26, 2012.
MVC was the first to get on the board when Sophomore Forward Haley Ennis (St. Charles, Mo.) scored off an assist from Freshman Midfielder Andrea Garcia (Toledo, Spain) 17-minutes into the first half. Park was able to tie the game at 1-1 with just under 13-minutes left to play in the first half, before MVC struck again. The Vikings were able to break the tie just before the halftime break as Senior Forward Breann Kinworthy (St. Charles, Mo.) scored with one minute remaining before the end of the first half, giving MVC a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Garcia was able to factor in another goal, this time scoring 10-minutes after the restart to give MVC a 3-1 lead. Kinworthy added a second goal at the 71-minute mark to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead. Park was awarded a penalty kick shortly after Kinworthy's second goal, and converted the kick to cut MVC's lead to 4-2 with just over 15-minutes left in the game. Sophomore Forward Ana Sores (Jundiiai, Brazil) helped MVC respond quickly after the Park goal, to put MVC up 5-2 less than two minutes later, and Senior Forward Cecilee Kidd (Fairfield, Calif.) capped off the scoring surge with just over 10-minutes remaining in the game, giving MVC the 6-2 victory.
Her goal today gives Ennis four goals on the season, which leads the Vikings. Kinworthy now has two goals on the season and Garcia picked up her second goal and second assist.
MVC outshot Park by an 18-12 margin, which included 10 shots on goal for the Vikings.
The win improves MVC to 3-1-1 on the season while Park falls to 0-2.
Up next for the women's soccer team is a home matchup with Columbia College Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Gregg-Mitchell Field.
