MVC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TAKES TWO SATURDAY AT AVILA TOURNAMENT
Marshall, Mo. (September 7, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball team continued play at the Avila Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. Saturday. In the first match Saturday MVC beat Stephens College 25-23, 25-15, 25-16. In the second match against Oklahoma Wesleyan University the Vikings won 25-23, 23-12, 13-25, 25-25
MVC won its seventh straight match by a 3-0 scoreline against Stephens. Helping lead the Vikings to victory were Freshman Outside Hitter Lauren Eldridge (Kansas City, Mo) who finished with 10 kills. Also Senior Middle Blocker Jada Hollinshead (Tunnel Hill, Ill.) added eight kills and Senior Setter Tarrah Sweet (Roswell, N.M.) finished with a double-double of 37 assists and 10 digs.
In match two Saturday the Vikings lost their first game of the season, but pulled out a 25-23, 25-12, 13-25, 25-23 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the finale match of the Avila Tournament. Senior Outside Hitter Ana Calito (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) finished with 14 fills, 12 digs, and two aces. Freshman Outside Hitter Lauren Eldridge (Kansas City, Mo.) had 11 kills and two aces. Dellasala finished with 21 digs, and Sweet added 30 assists and 13 digs.
The Vikings also defeated the University of Saint Mary and Benedictine-Springfield by 3-0 scores in Friday's action at the Avila Tournament. MVC now sits at 8-0 on the season.
The Vikings will have the next week off and will host the Viking Triangular Saturday Sept. 14 at the Burns Athletic Complex. MVC will host Avila University and Hannibal-LaGrange University in the triangular.
