MVC MEN'S SOCCER STAYS IN THE TOP 10

 

Marshall, Mo. (October 1, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team remained at the No. 10 spot in this week's NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.  The Vikings come into the week with a 7-1-1 record.

 

Last week the Vikings played No. 5 Ashford University to a 1-1 draw at home then defeated Avila University on the road 6-0 to open Heart of America Athletic Conference play.  For their efforts last week Senior Keeper Josh Wells (Kent, England) was named HAAC Defensive Player of the Week and Senior Forward Alberto Linan Gomez (Seville, Spain) was named the HAAC Offensive Player of the Week.

 

This week the Vikings host Ottawa University Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m., then go on the road for a HAAC matchup with No. 7 Benedictine College Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

 

Other upcoming MVC opponents ranked in this week's poll include No. 4 Oklahoma Wesleyan University and No. 21 MidAmerica Nazarene University.

 

The MVC women's soccer team fell out of the "others receiving votes" category in this week's NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll after defeating William Penn University on the road 2-1 then losing to Avila University on the road 2-1.  Avila is in the "others receiving votes" category this week in the women's poll.

 

The 7-2-1 MVC women's team hosts Ottawa University in a non-conference match Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Gregg-Mitchell Field.
