MVC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS EVANGEL TUESDAY

Marshall, Mo. (October 1, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball team defeated Evangel University for the first time since 2007 Tuesday night.  The Vikings snapped a 10-match losing skid to the Crusaders with a 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-10 victory.

Evangel entered the match in the "others receiving votes" category in the latest NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.  The match went back-and-forth between the two teams, and the Vikings were able to build a comfortable lead in game five before winning the decisive game 15-10.

Leading the way for MVC was Senior Outside Hitter Ana Calito (Rio de Janiero) with a double-double of 21 kills and 16 digs.  Junior Outside Hitter Rebecca Jones (Simi Valley, Calif.) finished with 13 kills, and Freshman Outside Hitter Lauren Eldridge (Kansas City, Mo.) had 10 kills in the match.  Senior Libero Diane Dellasalla (Houston, Texas) had 27 digs and Senior Setter Claire Lorenz (Crestwood, Mo.) had 19 digs.  Senior Setter Tarrah Sweet (Roswell, N.M.) finished with a double-double of 56 assists and 15 digs.

The win improves MVC to 15-1 on the season and 3-1 in HAAC play, while Evangel drops to 10-11 and 2-2 in the HAAC.  The Vikings are now alone in third place in the conference standings, one match behind both Baker University and No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene University.

The Vikings will next play at the University of St. Mary's Triangular Saturday.  MVC will play Southwestern College and the University of St. Mary's in matches, and have already defeated both teams earlier this season.
