VIKING FOOTBALL STAYS RANKED NO. 6 IN LATEST COACHES' POLL

 

Marshall, Mo. (October 21, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College football team remains in the same spot as last week in the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll.  The latest poll released Monday has the Vikings sitting at the No. 6 ranking for another week.

 

The Vikings are coming off a come-from-behind victory over Evangel University 31-14 on Homecoming.  The Vikings scored all 31 of their points in the second half.  The win improved MVC to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play while Evangel fell to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the HAAC.  The Vikings have now been ranked in 97 consecutive polls, dating back to the beginning of the 2006 season.  The 97 consecutive polls is the second longest active streak in the NAIA, behind Carroll (Mont.) College which has been ranked in 162 straight polls.

 

Other HAAC schools ranked this week include Benedictine College at No. 5, Baker University which moved up one spot to No. 9 and Peru State College up four spots to No. 12.  Non-conference opponent Ottawa University dropped five spots to No. 13 in this week's poll..

 

The Vikings will host Baker University in a top 10 showdown this Saturday at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.  Baker enters the game with a 6-1 overall record and 4-1 record in HAAC play.
