MVC CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT PRE-NATIONALS SATURDAY

 

 

Marshall, Mo. (October 12, 2013)- The Missouri Valley College cross country teams competed at the NAIA Pre-Nationals Meet at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan., Saturday.  The meet featured a number of Nationally ranked teams, and took place at the site for the NAIA National Championships that will be held next month.

 

The Viking men's cross country team, which entered the meet in the "others receiving votes" category in the latest NAIA Men's Cross Country Coaches' Top 25 Poll finished No. 12 in the team standings.  The Vikings finished ten spots higher than Baker University and only one spot below Central Methodist University.

 

Top finisher for MVC was Freshman Phillip Cheriyout (Nairobi, Kenya) who placed No. 19 overall with a time of 25:51.32 in the 8k race.  Following Cheriyout on the men's team was Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) who placed No. 70 with a time of 26:47.92, Senior Ignacio Franco (Hoesca, Spain) placed No. 17 in a time of 26:57.69, Freshman Nolan Ryan (St. Peters, Mo.) placed No. 85 with a time of 27:05.48, and rounding out the scorers for MVC was Junior Kenneth Kipng'Etich (Nairobi, Kenya) who placed No. 91 in a time of 27:10.54.

 

Only one member of the women's cross country team took part in the meet as Senior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson, City, Mo.) finished with a time of 20:20.05 to place No. 107.

 

The cross country teams have a couple of weeks off and will compete again Oct. 26 at the Mid-States Classic at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.
