Marshall, Mo. (March 16, 2013)- The No. 9 Missouri Valley College men's volleyball team split two matches Saturday in the Stitch Invitational in Milwaukee, Wisc. MVC won the first match against Emmauel College 3-1 and lost match two against Cardinal Stitch 3-2.
The Missouri Valley College men's volleyball team won sets one and two, before falling in set three, to rally big in match four to take the match 25-10, 25-11, 14-25, 25-16.
Junior Outside Hitter Jocob Pederson (San Jose, Calif.) finished with 11 kills and four blocks, and five digs, while Junior Middle Blocker Jacob Haar (La Mesa, Calif.) had 10 kills with no errors on 16 swings, one ace, and three blocks. Setter Will McCracken (Goleta, Calif.) had 38 assists, two aces, seven digs and one block.
In match two MVC faced host team Cardinal Stritch. The Vikings took sets one and two, before falling in sets three, four, and five. MVC fought hard in all five sets with six match points to 15 in set five before falling 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, and 24-26.
Junior Outside Hitter Peterson Silva (Nova Era, Brazil) finished with 14 kills, eight digs, and four blocks, while Haar had 16 kills, one ace, three digs, and seven blocks. Freshman Outside Hitter Jose Paquin (North Las Vegas, Nev.) had 10 kills, four blocks, and McCracken had 51 assists, three aces, three blocks, and six digs.
The Vikings record sits at 14-7 overall. Emmanuel College drops to 4-20 overall and Cardinal Stritch improves to 19-8 overall. The Vikings will be in action again Wednesday when they host No. 1 Park University to Burns Athletic Complex for a conference match-up. Game time is set for 7pm.
