William Jewell Softball 3/17/13

William Jewell softball used five home runs in the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader against McKendree to win 12-1 in five innings, only to see the weather halt play in game two while ahead 3-1 in the fifth inning.  The suspended game will not be resumed, and the stats for the game are not official.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Jewell continued the power hitting display they showed against Bellarmine on Saturday when they had four homers by ripping five home runs in a 12-1 win in five innings.

Brittany Madsen had three home runs alone, with a grand slam in the first inning and solo shots in the second and third  innings. It is believed to be a school record for homers in a game.

The Cards also got a two-run homer from Faith Song, her third in three games, and a solo shot from Lexi Rozmus.  Jewell had 12 hits in the game and did not commit an error.

Rachel Hayden pitched the five inning complete game, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four to gain her second win of the season against one loss.

In the second game, Jewell built a 3-0 lead on Song's RBI single, an error, and Ashley Barrett's home run before the rain and sleet stopped the game in the top of the fith inning.

The doubleheader was playd with the tempratures in the lower 30's and the wind chill in the lower 20's.

The Cardinals, 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the GLVC, will play Lincoln University in Jefferson City on Wednesday before returning home to host Missouri S&T and Drury next weekend.
